As children, we were infamous for being one hundred percent ourselves, having minimal struggle in feeling and expressing our emotions, even demanding at times the things we wanted to have in our life experience. We KNEW what we wanted, and expressed this fully through our opinions and our creativity.
Growing up, some of us may have heard from those we trusted, that the world doesn’t actually revolve around us and that the things we held dear, didn’t matter much to those outside our immediate environment. This is the time when we also accepted the responsibility of huge expectations presented by our loved ones.
Consequently, in order to meet approval and win love and support of those at home, school and later on the workplace, we would now endeavor to meet these, most often – impossible expectations.
In our journey from childhood to adulthood, we have devoted so much time and energy trying to be the person that others want us to be, that we have lost touch with who we really are.
